︎Low carbohydrate intake is one of the most interesting dietary interventions applied for the management of diabetes. According to several randomized trials, diabetic patients who follow low or very low carbohydrate diets for 6 months may reach remission with no adverse complications.
Based on clinical studies, the low-carbohydrate intervention arm may increase desired results in terms of HbA1c, triglycerides, and HDL cholesterol. Also, the low-carbohydrate intervention arm reduced necessities for diabetes drugs.
In most studies, dietary adherence was a concern. These studies declared that a very low-carbohydrate diet is difficult to reach for individuals, however, a low-carbohydrate diet seems to be reachable.
Decreased dietary carbohydrates may improve clinical results in the management of type 2 diabetes.
