  • In this investigation, 98,052 pregnancy medical records were reviewed from the Japan Environment and Children’s Study.

  • ︎Interestingly, the results were variable depending on the timing of weight gain.

  • ︎Weight gain during pregnancy in the first trimester does not significantly affect the risk of having a small or large baby.

  • However, increased range of weight gain from the 1st trimester onwards was associated with a low risk of delivering a small baby but yet a higher risk of delivering a bigger infant.

  • ︎Those babies who were born with low or high weight surprisingly sustained low or high BMI respectively.
