In this investigation, 98,052 pregnancy medical records were reviewed from the Japan Environment and Children’s Study.
︎Interestingly, the results were variable depending on the timing of weight gain.
︎Weight gain during pregnancy in the first trimester does not significantly affect the risk of having a small or large baby.
However, increased range of weight gain from the 1st trimester onwards was associated with a low risk of delivering a small baby but yet a higher risk of delivering a bigger infant.
︎Those babies who were born with low or high weight surprisingly sustained low or high BMI respectively.
