In this study, 376 hospitalized patients with COVID-19 infection were examined. These participants were divided into two groups, with or without preexisting heart failure.
︎Interestingly, patients with heart failure did not have higher rates of death compared with those without heart failure.
Nevertheless, those patients had greater odds of needing readmission back into the hospital within 60 days of discharge.
︎Moreover, heart failure patients had a higher likelihood of COVID-19 impacting the cardiac tissue initiating heart muscle damage.
In conclusion, having pre-existing heart failure will not increase the chances of death but rather the chances of acquiring other medical problems mainly related to the cardiology system.
