Heart failure currently impacts 5.1 million people in the United States.
Common risk factors include hypertension, diabetes, tobacco use, and coronary heart disease; a condition of narrowing of the heart vessels.
Women are more prone to heart failure due to additional risk factors such as having a high resting heart rate, multiparity; giving birth to two or more children, and poor functional status.
Developing several risk predictor tools can help identify high-risk women. These tools can help to slow or prevent the development of heart failure and will help prevent unnecessary hospitalizations associated with heart failure.
